One of the worst apartments in Palm Bay/Melbourne area

Here are some of the nice things about Riviera Terrace:

1. Deposit is equal to one month's rent. There are many better apartment communities here with only $99 deposit which is also sometimes waived when they have promotions.

2. Deposit is never refunded. They want the tenant to leave the apartment in a condition better than what they entered in. So if you are looking for a few months or even a few years rent, either be prepared to invest to the tune of $700 for non-refundable security deposit, or look elsewhere.

3. Management, especially Ron and Alan, is worthless. The apartment community is run from New York and the people here are puppets with a book of rules that they can utter. No sensible work gets done. For e.g., our floors had dirty marks when we entered. We reported to the management, they came and took a look and decided not to fix anything. When we left, we were charged for that from our deposit.

4. Nets in the windows and porch have holes or are torn and are not fitted well. As a result, bugs, even geicos and snakes, sneak in the first floor apartments. No remedy even after complaining numerous times.

5. Provides high-speed internet at $24.95/month. Charges $75 for modem and $35 for installation. Ask the internet service provider () about the upload and download speeds and they will not be able to tell you. Because there is no speed. It is worse than dial-up. Go experience for yourself.

6. The apartments are in very poor condition and made of very poor materials with the woods getting warped due to change in weather. The management is extremely competent to figure out some way to blame the tenant and use his security deposit.

7. There is only one laundry room that remains open from 9am-9pm. Since the apartments do not have washer/dryer, it is not possible to do laundry at any other time. Needless to say, the laundry room is in a sorry state with historic washers/dryers (many of them never work and are for show only) and always very dirty.

8. Supposedly has state-of-the-art fitness center. It is in fact a very small room with two treadmills, a cycle and a power-training machine. A tenant needs to get the key to that room from the management office to enter. The office remains open only till 6pm on weekdays. If you want to work out after that time, no way to get the keys.

9. The shower in the bathroom is slow as hell. When complained, the plumber said that is how all new showers are to save water. What bull$hit.

10. Water and sewage bill is calculated in the most weird way in the world. Your water consumption is 30 times the amount of hot water you use. Our (2 adults) water and sewage bill used to be around $65 per month and we used to be conservative in our use of water.

11. Electricity bill is pretty high too. For a one bedroom apartment with 2 adults, it is $90-110 in summer and $70-85 in winter. We used to keep our thermostat at 80 deg. in summer and 68 deg. in winter. Cooked alternate days. Never used dishwasher.

12. From time to time, outsiders can be seen sitting inside the complex at night and smoking don't know what. Not very safe.

Hope you get the idea. If not, you soon will after you move in! Look around and you will soon find a better apartment community at this or lesser rent.
