The good: our children enjoyed the neighborhood children. The canal was nice to look at and nicer when the Burns Rd. park was improved with a bridge to our side. Management is always prompt to fix things.
The bad: We originally came because there was a swimming pool. That got filled with dirt after kids vandalized the pump room after a year. Also, management didn't allow pets although almost everyone had them. Then some got evicted for them. Being one day late on rent results in $40 fees and annual increases in rent are $20. Count on it.
The apartments are run down. The dry wall is so worn out around the windows that it is impossible to put curtains up any more. The towel racks in the bathrooms are crooked and impossible to fix without rebuilding the walls. The wood is rotting all under the roof. It's time to demolish these things and rebuild from scratch. The appliances are old and pretty gross. The water pressure is too low in one of the bathrooms to fill the tub. For some reason they couldn't fix this.
There have been some pretty serious crimes in the neighborhood. At least one murder. But on that front I should say that at least there don't seem to be serious drug problems here. Of course, there are teens, etc. But they are pretty tame all in all, compared to other places I've seen.
I definitely like being able to walk to the park. There are recreational facilities everywhere you turn. If you like outdoor sports and a cheap place to live, this is actually a pretty good choice if you can tolerate all of the above.
