I went to the ghost town a few nights ago to visit a friend who is stuck there until she can come up with money to move. The gates were broken as usual, but those fountains in the ponds were nice. Probably the nicest part of the place so far since they went condo. The pool was so gross with debris from the storm. No one has cleaned the pool since the storm and Wilma came almost 2 weeks ago. My friend still pays rent, shouldn't she be able to use the pool' The parking lots were empty. It was so sad. I was happy because I don't want them to sell any units, I hope they file for bankrupcy.

You are so dead on right. They are literally tearing our lives apart. We can't stop them (it seems to be a nationwide thing) from going condo, but we CAN make it very unpleasant for them. Condo conversions are ruining lives. What do WE do, the ones who cannot afford to buy our own homes? Isn't that why we rent in the first place? If I had the money I'd buy a home. I don't - that is why I rent. What the hell am I supposed to do with my family? I have looked all over here - there is NOTHING to rent. Now with workers coming in for all the malls going up, Scripps coming in, where are the apartments for everyone?? I realize some folks will be buying homes but those of us who have to rent will be at the mercy of those individuals who bought a unit for investment reasons and WE will have to foot the bill for maintenance, utilities, and THEIR mortgage!! What a sad place we have come to. We are just two average working people (my wife and I) who make just enough money to pay our rent on time, keep food on the table, fill our car up (though it is getting harder every day even to do that), pay for medical attention, keep clothes on our backs and everything else that goes with raising a family. We do not have the required down payment. We are just making ends meet. We are not lazy, (I work weekends when I can pick up shifts) we don't want anything for nothing, we just want to be able to live here and raise our family in what we thought was a decent place to live. Is that too much to ask? This world is going downhill fast - putting the fatcats money grubbing ahead of human life. Anyway, if anything gets going, count me and my family in. I will march, picket, anything else that is needed - if just so much as to show these bastards how vile they are.
