Keep everything in writing. EVERYTHING! If you have a problem, contact the mgmt in writing via certified mail, and request a response in writing. Keep a file on these people. Upon moving out: request that the manager do a move out inspection with you, and have a video camera, and a witness with you. Document every time you speak to them.
Trust me, I shoulda, coulda, woulda, had I known.
They can't keep your deposit without good reason. But you need to also have it documented why they can't keep it.
Learned the hard way.
