when i first moved into lamplighter, the empty apartment had a horrific roach problem (which was never addressed, even after i complained several times) and the carpet was horribly dirty. after moving in, i opened the drapes and half of them fell off. throughout the 17 months i lived there, i repeatedly brought my problems to their office. their inadequate staff said they would have someone "come and look at it" - never happened. my back sliding door got stuck shortly after i moved in, and the lock wouldn't fasten again. the paint on the ceiling peeled; pieces as big as 2 feet would fall - once on top of my head while i was doing dishes. the refrigerator leaked about a gallon of water everyday - a problem i mentioned to them many times (in person and over the phone), but was never fixed. the towel rack in the bathroom fell off once when i was taking off a towel. also, the walls were spraypainted (as someone else posted) and white paint was all over the carpet by the baseboard. the storage room by the patio looked like it had never been cleaned. the walkway outside my front door (i lived on the 2nd floor) was in bad shape as well. the boards felt as if they were going to give way everytime i walked on them. absolute horrific accommodations.
the building itself should've been condemned after hurricane ivan. the couple living next door to me had to move out, due to their ceiling collapsing. my ceiling and walls leaked water - another problem never addressed when they said someone would look at it. after the hurricane in september, the fences were destroyed. when i moved out in december, they still hadn't been fixed. neighbors who lived nearby at the housing projects on the other side of the fence would frequently walk through the parking lot - which is also horrible. i had to park far away from my apartment everyday. the debris from the hurricane was STILL THERE 3 months later. it wasn't even swept or blown. just an absolute, complete mess.
then there is the issue of the quality of tenants. this is a place where you hear loud bass blast out of $400 cars everyday. not to mention the housing project located directly on the other side of the privacy fence, which is STILL down after hurricane ivan.
when i moved out in december, i was told my the manager (i won't mention her name) that i would get my deposit back within 2 weeks. well, it has been 2 months now, and no deposit. i have been calling them several times a week. most of the time, there is no answer - probably 85% of the time. they don't return my calls. i've given them my number several times. they always say they will look into it, and that i'll get my deposit back soon. last week, the property manager said she would personally take care of it, and i'll have my check early this week. it is now friday, and no deposit check. i'm about to take further action.
believe me, everything you read about lamplighter on this site is TRUE. it's a good think that there is a website such as this one to find out information about apartments and complexes, especially if one is considering moving there. i hope this will serve as a warning to people thinking of living at lamplighter apartments. believe me, you will regret it. trust me, you don't want to find out the hard way like i did. horrible management, horrible neighbors, horrible accomodations. just appalling.
