This is a true account of life at Marcus Pointe. I was out of the country when my home was destroyed by hurricane Ivan; so I had a friend of mine seek out a new place for me to move into when I got back. She found Marcus Pointe. They advised her ( a white female ) the minimum requirements to move in, no criminal record, clean credit, rental or owner history, and verifiable income of 3 & 1/2 times the unit price. Everything was arranged for me to move in when I retured. They verified all of the above requirements were met & set a date for me to move in. I had my posessions in a U-haul and was ready to be handed the keys as I was signing the lease. So far so good, until the manager saw that I was a forigner. At the moment I was signing all the approved papperwork and the truck full of furniture was outside the manager comes in & demands that I pay 3 & 1/2 months rent in advance or I do not get the apartment! I had no choice but to pay over 3500.00 up front to keep from being homeless. ( as pensacolians already know there was an extreme housage shortage right after hurricane Ivan )
On the first day the water heater was broken. I has the first 2 days in my home with cold water only. The construction is shoddy at best. None of the doors close correctly & the blinds and paint are of the chheapest quality. They gave me 2 keys, 1 did not work & when I asked for another they told me I would have to have one made at my expense. The security gate is broken 90% of the time, yet they charge you 25.00$ for each badge to open it. ( BTW it costs them 3.00$ per badge yet they think 25.00 is reasonable. You must get your water through american water & power if you are a resident there. AW&P is much more expensive than ECUA. They have the place set up so you have to get internet connection from a local company whose service is horrible! The connection is always slow, often down, and expensive too.
The air conditioner leaked all down the hall & soaked the carpet. It took ONE MONTH of calling to get them to fix this. The walls & carpet became moldy. Guess what' They painted over the mold & stuck a fan on the carpet. They would not replace the moldy carpet pads or adequately remove the mold from the apartment. If you are about to move there just think you may be getting my old aprtment with just one coat of paint over all that healthy black mold.
Actually I could write a book of horrors here, but as you are probably tired of reading I'll close with how things went upon move out.
Don't even for one sec. think that you will get a deposit back. Above the fireplace there was a place for your tv, seeing as it was painted with latex paint that peels, you would expect having a tv on it for a year would cause it to peel. That goes in expexted wear & tear. Yet when they were doing the walkthrough the ---- chief says to the painter in a huff, "can THIS be fixed'" Holy god, some peeling paint & they act like the place has been destroyed! There is more but over all I would say you've got the point. DO NOT LIVE HERE! DO NOT EVEN SEND YOUR WORST ENEMY TO LIVE HERE! IT IS TOO CRUEL!
OH JUST ONE MORE THING- After 1 year when it was time to renew the lease or move out, they raised the rent by $70.00!!! Rent would have gone from 830.00 to $905.00! And they wonder why so few stay!
P.S. after reading the few positive comments on this site I would have to say that they were phony & written by the staff.

our air condition leaked the same way, it soaked the hall and partly into my 3 year olds bedroom, and what did they do? put a fan on it! not to mention the 4 different snakes that have been on our front poarch in a months time! that makes me feel real safe with two small children! I want out as fast as we can!
