Going Condo

My husband and I moved here last June. They did not tell us they were going Condo. People continued to move here even this January..they still didn't tell people they were doing it, but we heard rumblings about it. Finally we got notices..either buy or get out. They offered us $240,000 for our little two bedroom, two bath "condo". It was an apartment when we got there. But of course that was a discount price compared to off the street cost. We could hear the man upstair take a leak from our bathroom, not to mention his dogs running. Speaking of dogs..don't walk in the grass. They are not built to hurricane standards!! You can hear footsteps above!! Parking is anywhere you want. Carbon Monoxide detectors go off all the time...faulty wiring. I'm not making this up..Trust me. Find another place. It is truly the worst mistake. We moved this week after the condo shame. It's not worth it

This person is obviously a hard person to please. The letters that we received did not state buy or get out, they simply stated that the ownership had changed and that they were going condo. We were also given options pertaining to our lease. I believe we all got the same letter and mine surely didn't say get out. Yes, this property is a pet friendly community with a dark park. I love the ability to let my dog run free within the park and get exercise after a day of being cooped up in the apartment. My carbon monoxide detector has gone off as well, I simply called the office and they came out and changed the battery in it.I have lived here for over a year now and I am very happy here. I have signed my lease extension, and have even spoke to the leasing office to find that they are re-renting apartments as well as renewing leases. I figured I would wait it out to see if I can re-new my lease. I beleive that those of us who like it here and are happy will stay if we just wait it out. The media is constantly showing that the condo crase is coming to a halt. So until then myself as well as my neighbors will hang in there and stay.

This response is a ringer for sure. I was travelling in March when my husband received a notice that we would have only until our lease to buy or move out (about 3 months). I was panicked at the airport and we didn't know how we were going to find a wheelchair accessible unit and get the modifications completed in just 3 months. Not to mention, moving is expensive and 3 months wasn't enough time. He can't help me move, so our unique situation meant hiring movers. Well, when the units weren't selling, they were so kind as to offer to let us stay an additional 6 months if we wanted (but we didn't know that until weeks after the notice). Then when not a single unit sold, they were trying like crazy to lease again. They lost 2/3 of the residents over this fiasco. Move in there if you want, but you can't trust them to do the right thing. They don't care about their tennants. OH - and those carbon monoxide alarms. Changing the battery DOES NOT WORK. I had to climb on furniture and undo the wiring to get it to stop beeping. And for this person to say they didn't sell b/c the media has announced that "condo craze" is over? hahahahaha! That really makes me laugh. Put up a sparkling glass high rise with a beautiful luxury pool and concierge and see if that has trouble selling. They were selling apartments, not condos, for goodness sake!
