Decent Starter Apartment -- if it was not so close to Collier City From: Daveduv Date posted: 3/3/2008 Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007   We lived here for several years while I got my Graduate Degree... it was our first apartment. When we first moved in to our small 1/1, we were thrilled. Open floor plan, room for our couch and a TV and a kitchen of our very own. Then the problems came pouring in. Multiple maintenance issues, one of which left us with a large hole in the ceiling above our bathtub for nearly 2 months. We had mold and mildew in our A/C for more than 4 months before it was finally replaced with a unit built for a much larger apartment (sounded like a Jet whenever we turned it on). The management was polite, but innefectual... okay that's being kind -- useless. We had 3 different neighboors that moved in and out above us -- VERY VERY noisy apartment. ANY music, not just the loud stuff, reverberated through our home. A dog two floors up' Kept us up for 4 months before he was finally asked to move, which took him 3 months. Looking for peace and quiet' Look elsewhere -- frequent parties and frigtening situations abounded while we stayed here. The second year we were there, we received at least 3 separate notices that a rapist or thief had broken into a nearby complex. The major unsovled murder of Chris Reika (sp') occured just down Atlantic Blvd across from Collier City -- which my BSO friend has told me is one of the WORST places in Broward County (it's a short walk over the Turnpike from Banyan Bay). The grounds are decently kept, but the finish work in the apartment is dreadful -- it took us one full year to clean the apartment thoroughly enough that we didn't have daily Palmetto Bug and Ant problems -- we never truly got rid of the ants (perhaps primarily due to the 1.5" gap under the front door). I must say that they were very fair when we chose to leave, and we received our full deposit back within 30 or so days. If you MUST MUST have an apartment in this area, Banyan will certainly due, but I would reccomend looking further North or West.
