I moved to the Daytona Beach area and spent several weeks trying to find a single bedroom apartment for me and my dog. I must say almost 90% of all the places I looked at were total trash dumps. One place had appliances so old, so off-white, they could pass for brown. I came across Hawthorne Village and must say I was very pleased. The rent is about $200-$300 more expensive than other places in the area, but I must say the difference is night and day. I pay just under $800 a month for a 870 square foot living arrangement. The neighborhood is quiet and everyone seems very pleasant. The gate doesn't work, but so many cars pass through it I don't see the point in having one anyway. There's free trash pickup at your front door every morning, whereas in Legacy just a few miles away I see people lugging trash bags on the back of their cars to the dumpster, which is laughable at best. The apartments themselves are just over a year old, the appliances are all brand-new, carpets are clean and well kept.

Of course as with any apartment, there's a few inconveniences. The A/C unit runs a tad loud, probably because it's placed in the center of the entire apartment. The dishwasher is loud too, but I think it's a problem with my specific unit. The kitchen sink is a little small and the shower doesn't have a removable handle, something that's pretty annoying sometimes. But you can't please everyone. There's always parking right by my apartment, only about 20 feet walking distance. At least half a dozen cop cars always parked here, so it's pretty safe.

As for the other reviews, I really don't see any problems with the management. They're always friendly when I'm in the office, remember my name and ask how my dog is doing. I haven't needed maintenance yet, so I can't say anything there. To the guy complaining about his A/C bills - install some curtains in your house, it makes all the difference. I can hear my neighbors only if I put my ear to the wall, and they say they don't even hear when I'm in the house.

Overall, you get what you pay for. The floor plans make for a very comfortable living arrangement in the one bedroom. Negotiate your lease, they will gladly give you a full month free if you just ask for it, plus waive all the fees. Oh, there's also no security deposit!
