Hatteras Sound

My fiance and I moved in a little over a month ago and we LOVE IT HERE. This place has beautiful landscaping- we face the lake (which doesn't have trash floating around in it like I've seen at some complexes) which is a nice bonus. They have lots of flowers and some flowering trees around the buildings and the grass and shrubs are kept green and mowed.

The office staff is small but nice; Alison and Jeff really make me feel at home. Office hours are the same ones I work and they're closed on the weekends so it can be difficult to get in to see them. They are, however, always very efficient, helpful, and courteous when I come in with questions. I have never dealt with such a respectful staff. The maintenance staff is nice too but I don't see them too often because everything in my apartment works. It looks like they hired a company to paint the fake shutters on the second floor of all the buildings and it looks better. The downstairs ones were painted recently. There are some rules about having the cable company (Brighthouse) out to install services but these were explained to me in detail when I asked.

Our neighbors for the most part are really friendly; we share a wall with one rude woman but we never hear her. Compared to the apartments we've lived in before, the soundproofing is really good. We had a problem with our downstairs neighbors' music once but we talked with them and they've been very considerate since then. I put some flowers outside on our little porch and no one has messed with them. I know we have neighbors who smoke but I never see cigarette butts in the grass or on the sidewalk, which I really like. Rarely do I see any kids playing outside or making too much noise.

There is only one compactor for the community but I've never seen trashbags outside it; just large furniture which the maintenance staff seem to deal with. The mailboxes are small but the packages are taken to the staff. I get a slip when one is delivered (but like I said, it can be hard to get into the office).

The late fees sound expensive but if you pay your rent on time you don't have to deal with them. Our lease explaination seemed very thorough. The rent is more than I'd like to pay but not as expensive as some other places. The amenities seem fine (I don't really use them) and the community is small, so you can walk to everything. The pool is right by the mailboxes and everytime I go by there are people playing in it and it looks very clean.

The gate hasn't worked the past few nights, but that would be my only complaint! It feels like we live in a neighborhood, or a community, not a complex.
