Be aware of construction before moving in

I have lived here for a year and it was a great experience. Whenever anything goes wrong, someone is here very quickly to fix things. The office staff is great, I have even become frinds with some of them. The gym is alright, they are missing some pieces to the machines that allow you to use them, but worse things have happened in the world. They have had a bit of a mold problem (hello, its Florida) but they are redoing the outside of the buildings because of this. They will be great to live in afterwards. Meanwhile if your already are in a lease they give you no discount at all for the beating on the walls from 8 am to 8 pm. It is a nightmare if you don't work during the day or if you have kids. The construction has also taken over the front of my garage(that I pay $100 a month for). In order to come or go I have to give the construction workers 20 minutes notice. I would just park in a parking space, but the construction has also taken up almost all of them. The parking that is left is usually taken by the time I get off from work(at night). If you are looking for a cheep place and you are not already in a lease, they will give you a big discount for the construction. However, it is discouraging to know that if they did have you already locked in a lease, they pretty much screw you.
Other things you should know is that the electric here is very high (about 190.00 for 1 bedroom and I keep the A/C on 79) Good luck finding an apartment. If you do come here Suzi is a great lady to get info from in the office.

Excellent in-depth review. I couldn't agree with you more! I work from home, and the construction is indeed a nightmare of noise and dust and inconvenience; and it is most dismaying that we have been offered NO DISCOUNT from rent at all. All they've done is have 2 "free" lunches that you can attend to "find out the current status" of the construction. Big deal - I can see the status from my window.
As for your electric, I also live in a 1 bedroom, but have an attached garage, which means I have a staircase to get air to as well. I keep my AC set around 80, and even in the hottest months, the bill was about 100 dollars, and that's with me here most of the time, running other appliances. Your bill is absurdly high. Even if you haven't replaced your AC filter in 6 months, or you are running something else major, I don't think your bill should be that high. Since neither Plantation Lakes (PLAKES) nor FPL pay your electric bill, it's not in their best interest to care. I suggest you have FPL come out and do their free inspection to determine where the problem is. Then it's up to you to insist PLAKES resolve the issue. I have lived in many apartments, and had the same issue once. It turned out the AC system's air handler needed to be replaced. Wow, did my bill go down after they did that!
