When we moved into our apartment we were excited that it was "newly renovated" We looked around and were quite impressed, the size was perfect, beautiful view, but it was kind of pricy. We were enjoying our first evening in the apartment when it began to get a little chilly. I went to turn on the heater and realized that the friggin thing didn't work. Neither did the AC...that's pretty bad, right' Well, we proceeded to check other things out. The stove was plugged in, but would not heat. The dryer blew cold air, and there was no hot water. I was extremely pissed, but waited til morning to let them know. They didn't sound surprised at all that there were problems, but the construction crew was quite surprised the next morning when they barged into our apartment unannounced and uninvited...they didn't even KNOCK, they just walked in. We figured they were here to fix the problem, but they informed us that it wasn't their problem and they didn't even know that we were supposed to move in the previous day. (I'm not surprised they didn't know, because it looked like they were only a quarter of the way through renovation) Dead roaches lying around, paint sloppy, carpet not vacuumed and slighty stained. A quarter of our bathroom counter was missing. When two days had passed , we finally went back to the office. They said once again that maintenance had been told, and would be there ASAP. When one week had passed without heat, hot water, stove, or dryer I became quite enraged. Only when I insisted that they move us to another unit or pay for us to stay in a hotel did they send maintenance, who took another three days to fix the problems. I also had problems with our neighbors who were playing music so loud that my brains were jiggling. I told the office personnel of the music, and she actually had the audacity to say "well, as long as the whole building can't hear it, it's not really a problem" so as long as I'm the only one suffering, it doesn't matter, when it clearly says in the lease that no noise should be audiable in any other surrounding unit. It took several phone calls to the police, and a nasty written letter to get the manager to get the neighbors to stop. We've sucked it up for six months, knowing that our lease would be up, but we recently received our renewal. They wedge it in our door 45 days before we have to renew with big bold letters that say "move-out requires a 60-day written notice" WTF' You can't do that, can you' I found the friggin note on the ground, what if it was windy that day, would I have never gotten the notice' And to top it all off, they spiked our rent $60 a month...Reasons these apartments are not worth $710 a month are as follows: pool is disgusting, I wouldn't jump in it if I were on fire, office staff is rude and unresponsive (I drop my rent check in the box to avoid them), maintenance is HORRIBLE, my vehicle was vandalized (and the complex turned me in for having no plates on the vehicle after it was vandalized..great leave the plates on the car so it can get stolen easier..yeah right) The kitchen is really small. Appliances are from the 70's, the carpet looks like it was purchased at good will, there are swarms of blind mosquitos that you can actually hear when you get out of your car (if you want extra protein, you'll get plenty here because they all fly into your mouth. The grass is practically three feet tall, but when they cut the grass they blow it all over my brand new car. I caught a roofer peeping into my windows while I was sleeping..and to my knowledge all the staff did was chuckle about it. It's two blocks away from the biggest crack neighborhood in Sanford. I don't know if you need more convincing, but if you're not convinced by now, perhaps you should move in, you'd fit right in with the rest of the morons here.
