My lease just ended at Westlake, and I think that there was a lot of good and bad to this place. First of all, when I moved in it was a headache from day one. Maintenance worked out of my building (10) for several months and I had a really hard time finding parking, etc. Often times I would have to park 4 buildings away and walk in the nearly pitch black. There is very little room to walk your dog, and the people that do have dogs here let them crap ANYWHERE, including the actual parking lot. My dog constantly got fleas here, and was often jumped on by other dogs whose owners were too lazy to leash them. The breezeways here are absolutely DISCUSTING! Half the time there is vomit, spider webs, etc. in the halls that is never cleaned. Also, don't expect the quality of your neighbors to be very high, because my neighbors were very rude, especially the ones who let their dog bark ALL NIGHT LONG. I haven't gotten a good night sleep in months. Also, don't be fooled about the water situation.... it is NOT metered to your specific apartment, it is per building. I know this because I was out of town for nearly a month and still had the highest water bill that I ever had there.
Aside from all of this, the staff is very nice and the maintenance was usually pretty quick to take care of any issues you may have had. Also, my apartment itself was pretty cute, but rather expensive for what you actually got. My rent went up dispite the overwhelming number of vacancies in the complex, which was the main reason why I left. It couldn't have been at a better time though because the quality of residents here was similar to low income housing.
Oh yeah, and be careful with your vehicles... My car was serverely scratched due to a maintanance worker parking the golf cart in the SAME parking space that my car was in. Now I will just have to wait and see if I will get my deposit back...
Overall, this place isn't horrible... but for the money, there are a lot nicer places that you could go. Pay attention to the actual building/apartment you are moving into before you sign your lease... from what I have noticed, a lot of people are fooled into leasing here because of the nice landscape.
