Take a look around at other properties nearby that aren't advertised as much!

Look elsewhere! Take the time! Or if you have to, do NOT get more than a 2-3 month lease.
I came to this complex because I own a large dog and it's hard to find an apartment if you have a big dog. I think I knew within the first two weeks that it wasn't going to be good. The apartment had been painted and the carpets cleaned in most places; however, I had to do a great deal of cleaning: I even had to clean up the past tenant's cat's poop from the utility closet. Some basic appliances weren't working and I had to wait for about a month for the clothes dryer to work and the icemaker to work.
There were other fees that reared their ugly heads about 2 months down the way. The power company had mistakenly set me up as being in a different apartment, so Citation Club ended up getting my bills. The management at the front office sent me a nasty letter as though I had done this on purpose. (Of course I paid all the bills.) Next came water and sewage. When I signed my lease I was given the impression that water was included in the rent. Three months later, I got a notice that, how wonderful, we were getting a new water company! I called the front office and they denied that water and sewage was ever covered and that I had somehow managed to not have to pay for the first 3 months. So now, my rent is effectively $40 more each month.
Now, to top it off, I've got several wild upstairs neighbours who all look to be between 19-21 and on varying kinds of drugs. They have friends who come over to party and my apt downstairs sometimes smells like a mixture of pot and cigarettes. Oh, and the noise is unbearable.
