Good and bad aspects

I rented here while on rotations for school because of the central location and low rent cost. The place has been here forever, therefore the walls are concrete and you can't hear a thing from your neighbor. Overall, the community is very quiet. I had a one bedroom on the corner and it had plenty of light and a pool view, which was nice.
However, that's where the good stuff ends because apart from those aspects, this place sucked. I don't know how to say it any other way.
1. Management always seemed helpful and responsive, but every time I put in a maintenance request or complained about security or safety, they listened and did nothing. I got a lot of lousy excuses, and the biggest hindrance to this is LACK OF COMMUNICATION among their team members.
2. Maintenance - big issue here. High turn-over, multiple requests that took over 5 months to complete, some were not even completed before I left (8 month stay). My refrigerator leaked and nothing was done. Doors to my bedroom and bathroom got stuck in the jambs. Stairway railing fell off and was never replaced or taken away (a resident finally threw it in the trash).
3. Safety - I guess I can say I felt safe here as a single WF renter, but there were domestic disputes (men beating on women) multiple times in the community and the outside security company was VERY slow to respond. It's pretty bad when the neighbors have to save a woman from her boyfriend when she's being dragged by her hair across the street. Also, the residents appear to be mainly low-income or welfare-type residents.
4. Not enough parking, many abandoned cars.
5. Mailbox very far away, only one trash disposal place for >800 apartments.
6. Pet rent extremely expensive ($200 non refundable PER PET a deposit).
7. Blatant drug usage in stairways and on streets.
I agree with previous reviewers that the only good thing about this place is location, and that you should only consider it as a last resort.
