Brandywine Apts sit right next to the now shut down Raytheon plant. Toxic chemicals from this plant were improperly disposed of years ago and have leaked into the groundwater directly below Brandywine. State records show a groundwater plume of industrial waste has been migrating under the neighborhood since 1999. In fact banks won't even write mortgages for houses in the area. Wells in and around Brandywine have been tested as well as the air quality within some apartment units. High levels of a cancer -causing chemical called 1, 2-dichloroethane (DCA)were found in six groundwater test wells within 200 yards of the Brandywine Apartments as well as high levels of the chemical in Brandywine units. In fact Levels of DCA in select apartments measured more than a thousand times greater than what the EPA says can cause cancer during a lifetime of exposure. Why has nothing been done' Its a big cover up. After testing the health department concluded there was no connection between the cancer-causing chemical 1, 2-dichloroethane (DCA) in six groundwater test wells within 200 yards of the Brandywine Apartments and high levels of the chemical in Brandywine units. The health department said residents in the apartments smoked and this is why the chemical had such high readings. Residents were later interviewed and no of them smoked. Your health department is supposed to protect you but apparently they are on the side of big business and have no problem lying. The Health Department is lying and thats disgusting. If you go to Brandywine they won't mention this until you actually sign the lease and it says on the lease that: The Fl Dept of Health performed indoor air quality testing in the units and they are safe. It doesn't say that the levels they found are one thousand times greater than what the EPA deems safe. How can the Health Department deem these levels safe if the EPA says they are over one thousand times safe levels. The vapors of this chemical seep up through the buildings and can even be detected in the soil. There is also an addendum in the Brandywine lease that says: Resident understands and agrees that the presence of the Contaminants is not grounds for termination of the Lease by Resident. There's a reason Brandywine is so cheap and this is it. Don't expose yourself to these toxic chemicals. The place should be condemned and razed. Pay a little extra and rent somewhere else. I like the place honestly and they inform you of the rayon stuff upon signing the lease. Also just to add that stuff may have gotten into the ground water but this place uses city water not well/ground water. I feel fine living here so far lol but who knows about the future. Lastly all except like one of the sales agents do live at the complex.
