Living here - a fair review

I've lived here one year, and a lot of these reviews bring up valid points, but not the overall picture. The management does not have a good bedside manner, but they get things done. 6 months ago it was a different story, but now maintence problems are resolved (even minor ones) shortly - I've had guys come by on Saturday to fix things (last year they had a couple guys quit with no notice and got really behind, but they are back up to par now). A big plus to living here is the quiet - these units are well built and my pet peeve is noise - I've only had a problem one time with a new neighbor playing loud music across the next building, and there is a curtesy officer you can call. With any apartment, you should check it out on a weekend night to see what it is really like, and here you will NOT find partiers, loud drunks and noisy music - you just don't see it or hear it. There aren't bunches of screaming, playing kids around either. On the downside the gates don't ever work, and there is no fence between us and the rent-controlled apartments - this issue needs to be fixed for sure as they are coming over to use the facilities. The lighting is a bit dim around at night all over the complex. I also feel the prices are a bit high for what you get. You know, no apartment is ideal, even more expensive ones. Yea, there's doggie doo everywhere, but whose fault is that' I've never been in a complex where that wasn't a problem. When I've comlained about dogs off lease or trash left outside an apartment they get a letter out and the issue is taken care of in a week.
Our lease is up and I really looked around and did an extensive search, and I ended up deciding to renew because for what's important to me - quiet, good neighbors, prompt maintence, management is responsive (just not super-friendly, but I don't need them to be my friends, the friendly ones tend to be the most two-faced anyway, and the people in the office aren't rude).
