Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Where can I begin. When we first moved in the apartment, it was not even ready. I had filled out the sheet and stated that their were some items that needed to be addressed. They totally ignored that list even thou I turned it in less than 24 hours after we moved in. At the end of the first month, we had mold growing in the walls of the bathroom and bedroom closet. The mold was so bad in the bedroom closet that I had to throw at least 7 pairs of shoes of my wife's that she had because their was mold growing. We called the staff and maintenance several times and it took them at least 3 weeks to address the mold problem. They kept giving us the run around and the maintenance staff was very unprofessional about addressing the issues. After the 4th month we lived in the apartment, we had mold growing in the air conditioning. We had addressed this with staff and maintenance and they did nothing. It was to the point that my wife got sick and we racked up over $300.00 dollars in doctors bills and medicine because it was effecting her breathing. Since the Camden Lakes staff didn't do anything about that, we called the Pinellas County Health Department and had the inspector come out and he declared the apartment unsafe and unfit to live in. We addressed the new manager about this problem and wanted to break the lease. The good thing about it is that Camden Lakes did pay all of our fees to transfer out utilities, paid for movers, and moved us to a new apartment. However, in the new aparment, we still continued to have problems. Their is not enough parking. The walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors turn up the base or their surround sound entertainment system, everything is old and breaks down in the aparment, the carpet is stained and dirty, everytime you go outside the grounds smell like an animal outhouse and no one cleans up after their dogs, the ducks are loud in the mornings if you live near the lakes, and it smells very bad. The staff and managers change every other month. More important, they are rude and unprofessional. Most of the staff cannot answer any questions to any of the problems you have. When we had problems with the neighbors cranking up the base music to the point where your walls are moving and you can feel it on the floor, they did nonthing! To my knowledge, their have been at least 5 managers in the past year and a half. If you put in a maintenance request, it takes them forever to get it addressed and the staff sometimes writes it down and does nothing with it. More important, when you move out, make sure that your apartment is clean and nothing on the walls, including nails. The staff has a habit of trying to cheat you out of your security deposit. Make sure you keep records of when you pay the water bill before you move out if it is at the end of the month. They tried charging me an extra $44.00 for a water bill that I paid when I turned in the keys. Make sure that you look over the charges before they issue you your deposit back. Luckly, the bookkeeper acknowledge that they had received my check for the water bill and refunding me my money, but it will take another 30 days to receive my check. Overall, the rent was cheap since my wife and I moved here from Ohio. Moreover, I would not recommend this place to know one, not even my wost enemy!!!!
