Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
I am writing to make everyone aware that a large majority of these apartments have mold issues. My family and I lived at Echelon at the Reserve for almost two and a half years. The first apartment that we lived in had window leaks constantly when it rained. Maintenance would try to resolve the issue but we were later told by maintenance that due cheap materials being used during construction, most of the apt windows had leaks. After that, we finally stopped calling the management office to complain. The management when we first moved in was great. Later, a new manager came in and everything was still fine, except for when we decided to move into a larger apt unit. Immediately after we moved in, my son became terribly sick due to mold. We did not notice the mold until my son was having such bad issues with his breathing. We searched around the apt, looking at the base near the floor in all rooms and found that there was mold which had been painted on top of and some which was still growing all the way out into the hallway. We lifted up the new carpet which was laid down before we moved in and saw mold underneath along the edges. It was horrible. I was so upset especially because this was in my babies nursery room. They tried to resolve the issue by replacing the drywall, they got dust on everything(Everything!) in my apartment, because they started working without letting us know how intense the process was. They still didn't replace the drywall in the hall where the mold had grown. We moved back in, after being in a hotel for about two weeks. My son still could not breath, becuase of the mold spores and poor repair. We had to transfer to another unit and after all of that my son still could not breath. We bought a mold test and tested the air in the apt and the results showed the presence of mold. We ended up breaking our lease, they charged us concessions from where we received a free month and a half rent plus an additional month penalty for breaking the lease on top of moving expenses. We were first impressed with the amenities and stylish decor of the apartment community, but don't be fooled by the outward appearance. Nor by the smiles and over friendly attitudes of the apartment staff. When we started having the issues with the apartment all of a sudden everyone seemed as though they couldn't speak to us. If you don't mind paying out doctor copays, prescription copays, or feeling as though you always have a sore throat, or cough of some sort, you might want to move in. That is what we experienced. Again, the first unit was fine, then we moved and basically took a gamble, because afterwards we had nothing but problems. Another thing, I later looked at previous reviews on this site and saw that another family had issues with mold at the Echelon, so I contacted them and found out that they lived in the same unit that we ended up renting. I think the health department or someone needs to investigate this apt community before someone gets terribly ill.
