I lived with a roommate in Emerald Bay Apartments and the only problem we had was an internet-based rent payment company. My roommate's not much of a checks or cash type guy, so he found website online that would mail a check to Emerald Bay on a monthly basis and take the money out of his account bank on their own. It's my sinking suspicion that Emerald Bay would receive these checks, deposit them blindly, and not mark off which resident they were coming from. They sued my roommate probably about three times, each time forfeiting probably about a month's rent each time they filed paperwork only to drop charges again.
Otherwise, we really enjoyed the area. It was kind of dark there, even during the day, but no one ever bothered you. When I first moved there, I took a walk around the property while my clothes were washing in the laundry room and was greeted by SEVERAL friendly residents. (I was actually surprised at this, as I'm from the North and this isn't something that happens back home.)
When looking at other comments left behind, you see that the "A/C broke." I don't know if these people realise that Emerald Bay participates in a programme where certain appliances are deactivated during high energy consumption days to conserve. I came home on a VERY hot day to find the inside of my apartment at 80 degrees and the A/C had been turned off by the power company for conservation. Not bad considering it was Floridian August.
Personally, I work in customer service and honestly, there are people who just LOOK for something to go wrong and to have something to complain about. If you can understand that raising kids is expensive and you need a mostly inexpensive place to live nowadays, you'll know why there were so many kids running around. (Most of whom were extremely polite and respectful to me.) Being one of two white guys in the whole apartment complex may seem a little intimidating, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out how cordial these people were.
There's a maintenance request system on the web now with Emerald Bay. They responded the following day with a technician who fixed the problem promptly and bid us a fond adieu.
As for pests in the apartment, it's to be expected when you have bad housekeeping skills. I would suggest cleaning up after yourself from now on and leave traps out for whatever pests you're experiencing until you can make it a habit.
Try out Emerald Bay Apartments for a nice, quite neighbourhood in the inexpensive, convenient, friendly section of St. Petersburg known as Treasure Island. (o:
