What I needed

I think a lot of people have extremely high expectations when they rent from an apartment complex and expect $1,200 a month quality from $500 a month apartments. I feel that for the price I paid in the area I got just what I paid for. All I needed was a small apartment in a safe area that was cheap enough that I could afford to live there on my full-time student income.
The Lakeside Village staff was awesome. They always remembered my name and room number when I came in with questions and their maintenance staff fixed the few problems I saw in my apartment when I moved in -the next day- while I was at work.
Like most places, your experience not only depends on the apartment complex itself but also the renters that live near you. I really only had a couple problems there. The person who lived across from me had a dog and didn't clean up after him when they would take him out. Also, there was one apartment of students that always came home drunk on Sunday nights that lived near me and were extremely noisy. These are things the apartment complex has no control over and other people that rent from them may never even have people like this near them. The apartment complex itself is pretty spread out so I'm sure most people weren't even bothered by these two things. There was only one incident that involved the police while I was there and it was handled so fast that by the time I called it in, police were already showing up from someone else's call. The apartment complex handled it well and no one except the three people involved were inconvenienced except by the sound of the incident happening. As soon as law enforcement was there I went back to sleep, they were even courteous enough not to have their sirens on and only the one to arrive had lights on. This could have happened at any complex. And as for the supposed drug users running around, I never saw anything like that in the six months I lived at Lakeside.
Parking on the other hand is pretty difficult. There aren't many spaces and since most renters are families (or it seemed that way in the building I was in) the spaces in front of the buildings usually are full by 8 pm. Granted, there is plenty of parking for everyone to have a spot, sometimes when I came home from work at 10 pm I had to park pretty far from my apartment.
Lakeside Village is doing a lot to renovate their property. I used to sleep in on days I didn't have class and can't say that construction noise ever woke me up. Mostly, it was the dump truck outside my building that did that, but that was just fine with me in exchange for being so close to a dumpster.
I never had problems with bugs in my apartment even though the seals on the sliding glass door weren't the best. The only ones I ever saw were ones that flew in when I'd get home late. The appliances never had problems including the air conditioning which worked 100% of the time. The air conditioning system even had electronic read-outs so you could tell exactly what it was set on. I know they allow pets because lots of people in the complex had them. Cats and dogs are both welcome and I think someone had a bird as well. I know they require deposit and pet rent but not more than that.
Overall, I'd have to give this apartment complex my recommendation to someone that needs an affordable place that has a staff that makes you feel welcome. It isn't a luxury complex, my floor wasn't perfectly level, the carpet wasn't soft, the bathroom had some patched up tiles, the window coverings weren't designer, but it worked for my needs. Keep this in mind when you read reviews. A lot of people just like to complain that they aren't having their asses kissed. Lakeside Village is not a bad place to live, lots of FAMILIES live there happily. Being a student I felt like I was in a minority. Of the three other people living in my building, I was the only one under 30.

Actually, I like it so much I moved back and STILL haven't had any of the problems this video shows. Like I clearly stated, if you want a nice apartment, move somewhere with $800 a month leases. That way you can have perfect everything and then you can complain.
In fact, I like my new apartment even better. My upstairs neighbor is kind of a jerk, but I'm sure when I move into a house in October I'll have a jerk neighbor, too. I'd also like to note that most of the issues in the video are things you would see when you take a tour of the grounds so I don't know why someone who had that much to complain about would move into the complex in the first place.
