Poisonous Spiders in Apartments

I moved in 3 years ago when my son was born. Everything was wonderful until we found a brown recluse spider crawling on our ceiling. We called the leasing office who told us they would send their exterminator. One week later, after many phone calls did we then get the extermintor, who proceeded to spray around the apartment. Two days later I found a second brown recluse spider crawling up my son's crib while he slept.

I then called the leasing office who did nothing but complain about why I kept calling them with an issue that they can't do anything about. I was appalled. I had to stay with relatives for two months. After living with relatives I even had their resident exterminator come and identify the spider so that I had proof it was a brown recluse. The exterminator looked at the brown recluse spider we had caught in a cup. He shrugged his shoulders casually and said, "Yep, it's a brown recluse," nonchalantally.

With this proof I went to management, partically a woman named Orly. She spoke to the exterminator by phone and was mad because no one mentioned this situation to her. She told us we could break our lease. We were young and trusted her word. A few months later, while looking for other apartments, come to find out she reported us as breaking our lease to the agencies.
The apartment is spacious and affordable.

You unfortunately can't buy comfort in knowing your leasing office won't be there for you when an emergency should arrive. Leasing office employees very rude and uncaring.

Very true. I have lived at this complex for 10 years and have always had issues with office management being quite unresponsive and not supportive of residents. The main issue that results in this is the people who have final say on any major issues are not on site. They work for Royal Palm and could care less about the residents. Also, the on-site property managers routinely do not "go to bat" for the residents with Royal Palm. I find your story appauling!!! A poisonous spider and they did nothing with an infant in the house, and additionally misled you about being able to "break your lease." If you are willing to live in a nice place with a nice price with little to no service without fighting to the death for everything you want, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere. You get what you pay for I guess....

Oh my Go_! I live here now and my husband and I are moving at the end of our lease (2 weeks away). I have a four year old and this story really got to me. I cannot believe it. You are absolutely right about the ignorance and complacency of the office staff. The maintenance, now, is absolutely great. It's the only positive I have to say about this place. Our rent for a 2/2 is going up to $1200. We found a nice 2-story townhome with a private patio no less, for $1350 in a much nicer neighborhood. There's too much "traffic" at all hours of the night and my child's window faces a parking lot (I know, our choice when we moved in but the "traffic" is getting worse here). Loitering all over as well if you know what I mean. Can't wait to get out.
