Meh...

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

After moving out of Osceola Ridge (formerly University Commons), even Hell would have seemed like a decent place to live, so I remember feeling pretty good about the place when I moved in.

That being said, the apartment was mediocre at best. First, the good, though:

1. Space and layout: The rooms are HUGE for the price. The windows in my room were tiny, but the room itself was a nice big square that offered more room for the price than anywhere else I looked at. Plus, there were a lot of closets.

2. Location: On Ocala Street, it wasn't a bad location, and you can bike or catch the shuttle to FSU.

3. Parking: The parking lot was never full. I was always able to park very closely to my apartment.

Now, the bad:

1. Noise: Midnight to three a.m. was basketball time right outside my window. A bunch of homeys would be out there almost every night of the week, and sometimes they provided entertainment for themselves by having a buddy pull up with some pimp-mobile that had about fifty-thousand dollars worth of speakers inside. At this point, the windows would shake, the bookcase would shake, the bed would shake, my roommate's collection of booze bottles would shake, the entire three-square mile radius around the apartment complex would shake...

2. Security: I made the mistake of parking in a dark space one night. At Berkshire, this is tantamount to leaving your keys on the front seat with a note that says "Please break into me" on the windshield of your car.

3. Construction: As with most apartments in the general FSU area, the appliances were really cheap. But, this just comes with the territory. The thing that really annoyed me, though, was the fact that the new refrigerator the apartment managers had installed before we moved in was too big for the kitchen, and actually blocked the outside door into the kitchen so that it could not be opened. They left it in there anyways, which I'm sure was a fire hazard or something. My roommate and I had to take the fridge out of the kitchen ourselves and move it to the dining area.

4. Management: Pretty nice guy, but I get the feeling he steals money from tenants and does drugs on the side... you know, one of those Vegas-type guys that you really like, but wouldn't trust with your worst enemy. On the other hand, the maintenance guy would respond to after-hours requests for free, which was good.

5. Other minor issues: Our front door was never painted, and the stairs leading up to it were described as "creepy", mostly due to the dead bugs that came into the stairwell to die.
