I am currently leasing at Boardwalk at Appleyard (as of right now...) and am desperately trying to find someone to sublease it so that I can get out of here ASAP. I have lived in four other apartment complexes which have all been predominantly occupied by students but none have compared to the absolute pain that this complex is.

Boardwalk is run by children who are quite often younger than me, and when I ask to speak to someone in charge, they all look sideways at each other and stammer that no one is currently in (which oftentimes I have discovered to be a lie). The mail is all done privately (sent to the complex but then distributed by a private individual) and is horrible! In my first week here, they lost a box of checks (which I had to pay a $35 charge for the bank to stop them), they lost an insurance packet (including papers I needed to sign in order to finalize), and they lost my subscription to a career-related publication (which costs me around $120 per year), not to mention a copy of my car title and a cashier's check for tuition which were returned to sender because the complex would not sign for it.

The roommate match is a joke. I specifically asked to be roomed with older, more mature students and also to not be roomed with smokers. Move-in day comes and I find out that the complex has thrown in two extra people (that I was not notified of before-hand, as had been promised)...both of which are polar opposites to the aforementioned description. Not to mention that one of them beats his girlfriend (which is COMPLETELY unacceptable). The complex offered to move me to a different room (for a fee of course) that was IN THE SAME BUILDING! Why would this still not change a thing' Keep reading.

Noise' Don't even think about sleeping or studying here, it's impossible. There is a noise ordinance in place but from talking to the complex, I discovered that it is only in effect when someone calls the police to report it (which of course never happens). I have lived here a month and have witnessed loud parties and/or brawls every other night (if not MORE often) for the entirety of the month. The average tenant's vocabulary never stretches beyond the word "F***" and they are constantly using it to yell threats and challenges at each other for no apparent reason. I once counted it used 15 times in a sentence that would have been just as effective in 5 words. So forget having intelligent conversations with your neighbors: it's like their perception of 'what makes grown up conversations'' never graduated from the 6th grade.

There is absolutely zero security on the premises and don;t let the fact that it's gated fool you: the front "exit" is left wide open all night long and the back gate has an opening large enough for a 300 pound man to fit through (I've seen it happen!).

The buildings are in good shape but that's the only thing they have going for them. Trash piles up at the compactors for weeks before someone comes to do something about it. Also when I moved in, the walls were filthy and covered in dirt and scratches and markings to which the apartment complex responded: "We can't do anything about it now that you've already moved in."

Summary: this place is a joke! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME HERE! Hopefully business will decline and they will be gone soon before subjecting any more unwitting out-of-staters to their unacceptable madness.
