RUN FOR THE HILLS CONTINUED

I don't think you're ready to read this. So we move into the new unit but cant unpack because the paint was wet. The stove did not have any burners, and after two weeks they finally brought us some, but they didn't even all fit our stove. There were no screens on the windows, or the patio door. I tried to clean the one screens on the window of my bedroom, but with a gentle wipe of a paper towel, the entire window fell out- yes, the window fell out. Forget "emergency maintenance," because windows falling out is not an emergency. Every faucet leaked- utility bill an average $25 more. Garbage compactor didn't work and smelled terrible. Leaking ceiling. Mold, rust, stains, you name it were in our food cabinets! Steps up to our apartment were loose and dangerous. The previous tenant must have been a she-wolf because there was hair everywhere- gross. The hot water lasted no longer than 5 minutes. Definitely mold, mildew, dust, and other allergy-related problems because I could not breathe in the apartment. Neighbor was broken into and nobody was notified. Keep in mind these problems existed from move-in through our last day, despite maintenance requests at least three or four times per week (their excuse was that they fired the maint. men- not my problem, hire new ones.) I facilitated the use of a lawyer and legally broke my lease pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 83.56, 83.51, and 83.53- don't let them run all over you, you have rights as a citizen and living in a slum is not one of them. Google those statues and educate yourself, you are NOT obligated to keep your part of the lease if the landlord does not keep theirs. I was so frustrated with doing business with these people that I didn't even attempt to reclaim my deposit because I literally couldn't stand their faces anymore- I was in the office every day. Living in this apartment was bad for my health and my schoolwork and if I had the time and patience I would have sued this company for as much as I could due to the insane amount of inconveniences I endured. Did I mention my indoor cat got fleas there'' Hopefully the new management decides to completely tear down and rebuild the buildings, because that is the only hope they will have. Oh but wait there is a positive! There is plenty of parking since nobody in their right mind lives there- its desolate all day every day.

Oh my God, I am so glad that somebody else has had as much annoyance and strife as I have! Not that I'm happy you went through all of that, but I thought I was the only one that got walked over by that God-forsaken place! I will definitely look up the statutes you recommended. And I'm glad you got out of your lease... that only makes me wish I had seen you in the office at one point and we probably could have had a class action suit against them! :-) Better luck with your future homes!
