Horrible!

Sorry for the long review, but it is fairly detailed. I have had the pleasure of living here for two years as the staff duped my parents into buying a unit. This place is awful. It's affectionately known as S#*teau De Ville or Chateau De Hell. The management is horrible and run by carpetbaggers. They have raised homeowners' rates many times without even fulfilling the promises they have made to my family as well as other owners when these places were sold. Some of the homeowners are actually suing them right now. The landscaping is treacherous and maintained by -------- who come early in the morning, are disrespectful and rude, and will blow trash right on to the hood of your car or on to your lounger when you are at the pool. I love dogs, but the rules regarding owning one here are not enforced, and you can smell it. Again, they back out on promises they make to residents and cannot be reached for help on anything (office hours are 8:30 to 11:30).
The parking lots are scary and there have been many break-ins, including my roommate's car. There definitely needs to be better lighting. The people here are so desperate for tenants they don't care who moves in, so yes there are sketchy people who do/deal drugs and there have been drug busts as well as a homicide in the parking lot of the complex last year. Fortunately, they have had more cops patrolling recently. We have to deal with "the family", who have already been explained in previous posts, plus people who definitely break housing codes for the amount of people they have occupying one unit, and thugs who loiter around the complex and occasionally intimidate others.
The pool has actually been very nice lately, at least when the family is not there. The apartments are nice inside, very homey, but oddly laid out. Some have jokes about the drugs the contractor was on when these places were built, or that the construction workers were Oompa Loompas. Don't let the realtors working for Coastal fool you- you are no better off with the "new" appliances and carpet they offer when you move in. All of it is the cheapest available, does not work right, and sucks up energy (which is a whole other story with horrendous utility bills). Our range doesn't work, the dishwasher is not hooked up right and almost caught on fire recently, and the washer (which is horribly placed but at least we have one) does not balance well at all. Since the complex is old, there are many problems associated with it that naturally occur with old buildings. Some outlets don't work. The plumbing is not good and you can expect to have your water shut off monthly at inconvenient times to make constant repairs. Half of the units, mostly downstairs ones, have been flooded due to grossly inadequate plumbing that shouldn't even pass inspections. We once filled up our bathtub and accidentally caused our downstairs neighbors' kitchen ceiling to cave in! And yes, we are missing screens for our shoddy windows as well. These places are not well insulated either!
If you don't mind all this, you might find Chateau De Ville a nice place. Otherwise, beware! I hope this review was helpful.
