OK, nothing terrible, nothing great

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
I currently live at JS, but will be moving out of town, so my time at JS is near its end. The apartment complex is nice enough, and is by far the nicest in the immediate area. Our apartment is nice, but the quality of the materials used in construction (aka- fixtures, pipes, etc.) is not very good. We have had a lot of problems with water in the walls and fixtures falling apart. Maintenance is not very good at all. They are slow to respond, and the job they do is sub par, often requiring one or more "re-do's."
The office staff is also less than would be expected. When we first moved in, the people in the office were helpful, although sometimes snotty. But with the new management came new incompetence. For example, my roommate had a package delivered and it was left at the clubhouse. Upon going to pick it up, they told her they couldn't find it, then told my roommate that it had already been picked up, and then offered no solutions. The package contained a very expensive xmas gift. It took several phone calls to the front office, which included threats of calling the police to report a theft (if someone else had in fact picked it up and not returned it). The office staff acted as if nothing was wrong and it was just too bad for my roommate. This is typical of the service you will receive.
The quality of some of the neighbors has gone down as well. When we first moved in, we had lovely neighbors- one couple made us brownies and others helped with various things. With the new management, however, came the drunk idiots who felt more than comfortable with getting drunk, chain smoking, and cussing at the pool in the middle of the day in front of children, and I won't even get into how loud they were at night. While many of these people were evicted from what I can tell (there was a rash of evictions letters on doors), the quality of the people is not what it used to be.
Given all these problems though. I do not regret living here at all. In my experience, every apartment complex has problems. And staff problems are common. If you want to live near Killearn and the nicer side of town, but not too far from downtown, it is a good, reasonably priced place to live. I recommend getting a top floor apartment if you can. They cost a bit more, but the valuted ceilings and relative quiet are worth it (you can't expect silence in an apartment complex).
