It is nice when you first see it, but be prepared to deal with some hassles!

After searching for a nice and affordable apartment in the area, I was initally excited about Andover. In order to get my business, I was offered a nice concession package, which even enticed me more. I've learned though, once you're here you don't get all those niceties anymore. My rent has skyrocketed which makes it difficult to accept that less than 3 years ago I was paying almost $150.00 less than what I was offered for my current lease renewal. If you are already paying on the high end of your limit, I would caution you against this. After moving in and after the inital oohs and ahhhs over it, I realized it too has problems. The neighborhood has dramatically changed in the three years that I have lived here. The cliental that they are renting to makes me feel as though I might as well be renting an apartment on the USF campus. People hang out on their balconies until all hours of the night (and into the morning) drinking and swearing as if they lived in their own personal backyard. The noise from these balconies, as well as that from the pool area, travels across the ponds, and it feels as though these people are in your livingroom. I have complained to management numerous times and have finally given up. My phone calls don't get returned and I feel as though it is pointless anymore. People don't pick up after their pets, and often times leave them locked outside on the balconies to do nothing but bark all day/night long and if they do get walked, many of them are not on leashes. I can't tell you how many times I have been walking my dog and we've been approached by an unleashed dog. Anyone who has a dog knows this is problematic, being it puts my dog on the defense and me between to animals about to attack. Again, complaining is pointless. The trash compactor at the front entrance is ridiculous. On several occasions that trash has trickled down the steps and piled up. People routinely drop off their used furniture (sofas, mattresses)and it begins to look like a city dump. Don't believe the 'gated community' feature that they advertise as the gate situation is laughable. The gate is merely a 2x4 with some yellow tape that says caution on it. I can count the number of times it has actually worked properly and not been run over the next day and it doesn't exceed about 10 days in 3 years. For as many times as they've replaced it, they could have invested that money in a real gate. If you don't mind gaggles of teenagers wandering around at all hours unsupervised and most likely up to no good, then you probably won't be bothered by the fact that it is likely that your car may be run into by a skateboarder (as was mine) and they sound like a heard of elephants coming and going from their apartments while leaving trash all over the grounds. The pretty open field for those that have the few of Kinnan street is indeed peaceful and relaxing; that is, until the family with the dirt bikes and four wheelers that live in my building treat it as though it is a Nascar track. It's not only disturbing the serene feeling you're supposed to have when you overlook a conservation area, it's downright embarrasing. Although the appliances are newer, problems also plague the inside as well. My air conditioner has broken 3 separate times; 1 of which they didn't deem it a priority to fix on a Thursday afternoon in muggy September, so my apartment was about 95 degrees until that following Monday. On occasion, my dishwasher gushes water out the bottom and was told I use to much soap in it instead of actually fixing it - which that has done 3 times as well. They don't notify you when they need to be in your apartment for whatever reason they feel is necessary. Expect a note on the door the night before they want to be in your apartment - good luck making arrangements for your pet on such short notice. My smoke detectors had to be replaced (the actual unit and not the battery) because they would go off at random for now apparent reason. In addition to these frustrations, the office staff has been equally disappointing; the management has changed so many times I couldn't tell you any of their names and the only ones I could is based on the fact that they are known to the residents as unfriendly and downright annoying. Not only are they rude and disrespectful, most don't seem to care about the residents concerns. Feel free to voice your concerns/complaints but they usually don't get resolved. My advice to any of you reading this is to be very aware that, despite it being one of the prettier apartments in the area, you are still going to deal with the typical problems associated with apartment living. As for me, I declined to renew for another year based upon the growing problems and frustrations that only continue to escalate. I am eager to move!

It's called inflation! Rent is not immune!
