I was offended by the remark made about myself, the courtesy officer. I respond to 95% of the complaint calls that come out from this apt. complex in reference to noise, dogs and pretty much anything else. I think people fail to realize that I'm a police officer first. That means if someone is getting robbed on the street, and you call me about a barking dog, you're going to have to wait for me to handle it or call the Sheriff's Office. I have received calls from residents in the middle of the night because their electricity has gone out, or because they received a past due notice on their rent. I've even received calls from people asking me to walk to their relatives' apt. to deliver a message for them. These are not jobs that a police officer does, and yet, my phone goes off all day long. I have even had residents cuss me out on my voice mail because I didn't respond to a non-police related issue. It's important for residents to make sure they're leaving messages with the party who can handle them. Electricity is handled by emergency maintenance. There is nothing that a police officer can do to restore your electricity. If someone's dog is barking, and the person is not home for me to talk to, I can't kick down their door. All I can do is include it in my nightly report for the leasing office. I do my best to handle each and every call, but I do have to sleep sometime. I work night shift (6pm-6am), so anything that happens during the day is handled by the apt. leasing office. Like I said in my previous posting, some people are not happy regardless of what you do for them. I do what I can to make the residents happy, but the citizens on the street come first while I'm working. This community remains the safest community in this area with no property crimes occuring this year. I read a posting where someone commented about the side doors being left open. I walk around and close them every night, but it's up to the residents to keep them that way. I will lock a door and drive back 3 minutes later to find it wide open again. Your community is what you make of it, so take pride in where you live.
