It's fine!

I have been here for about 4 months, and so far, it's fine. I'm in a 2BR w/ den. The porch space is great, and I love the quirky layout/vaulted ceilings. The master bath and kitchen are ridiculously small, and I mumble to myself about them almost daily, but I guess it's a trade off for the 2 big porches. There will always be things in an apartment that you like and don't like, but you make do as best as you can. I had to put a storage rack thing in the dining room to hold all of the kitchen items that wouldn't fit, and it's a tight squeeze around the dining room table, but whatever. It's workable. The other option is to pay about $200 a month more elsewhere for less square footage throughout the apartment, including not having a cute little den for an "office."
The neighbors are typical -- some normal, some unsavory; some loud, some quiet. Some keep an eye on their kids, and some don't. I've complained to the office about one family, and it's improved tremendously after just one complaint. As far as parking, I've never had a problem -- I hear that this is mainly a problem in the preserve section, but not so much elsewhere. I live by the gym, and parking is ample. I've had some minor maint. issues, and they were responded to in a professional and timely manner. the office staff seems to have a lot of turn over, but the people in there lately are pretty nice. The valet trash thing is sort of stupid, but it's made clear that it's a required fee before you move in, so I don't really think anyone has a right to complain about that. I keep seeing people that write that you should add a couple hundred bucks to your base rent, and I have not found that to be accurate. It's about $50 for trash and homeowner's fees, and about $30-$40 for water. So, $100, tops, and this total price is included in the quote that the office will give you if you look at an apartment. It's not a sudden surprise that hits you after you've moved in.
The school district is top notch, and I feel about as safe as one can feel in a city such as Tampa at night. You shouldn't let your guard down no matter where you live within a large, higher-crime city.
Overall opinion' For the price and size, you can't beat Camden.
