We just broke the lease because we were unable to stay there for one more day. we had water leaking problems since we moved and mold growing all over the ceiling. The neighbors were loud and the place was just HORRIBLE. They are charging us $1,500 as penalty for breaking the lease.

Hm.....so you paid $1500 b/c of a water leak and mold. Not the best financial decision you'll ever make. Maybe that's why you are renting an apartment during the greatest growth period in US real estate history! The smarter human would put the complaint in writing and give the management company 7 days to fix the repairs as Florida law states. But instead you chose to pay $1500, wreck your credit, and move.

They said they were being charged. They didn't say anything about paying the fees.
