I generally had a good experience at Island Walk.
Pros: Spacious rooms for what I needed, updated appliances, updated cabinets, ceramic tile floor, newly painted buildings, newly paved roads and parking, and decent pool and cabana facilities.
Cons: Rent increase of $200 PER MONTH over the last 2 years, I had to vacate my apartment after yr 1 due to renovations to move into another apartment that rose my rent by $150/month, HORRIBLE PARKING, constant renovations over the last 2 years, so-so landscaping and maintenance, and did I mention the horrible parking' If you're a single female this is not a good place to come home to at night. I sometimes had a 10 minute walk in the dark home if I came home after 10:00 at night.

Hard to believe: 10 minute walk (1/2 mile)
Rent increases wherever you live.

I never fear walking around the complex at night by myself. All I ever see are people walking their dogs or jogging and they almost always say hello as they pass, very friendly. Again, I never have a problem with parking, maybe it's just the building I live in? Who knows, I just don't see this complaint.

If you live on the backside of the building, it can be a ten minute walk depending on whether or not you could park a couple of buildings down or if you had to park in guest parking. Right before I left, they were talking about assigning parking spaces so maybe that problem has been rectified.
As far as the darkness goes, with both of my apartments here I regularly had problems with the outdoor lighting not working. Having received a notice regarding peeping toms, having read the crime log in the newspaper, and having checked the FDLE website for sexual predators and offenders on Baywater and Harborside drives, I took no chances. If I couldn't find a parking spot and had to park kinda far, I called my roommate before I got out of the car. I worked, volunteered, and had a social life so I was in and out at various hours. During the day and early evening, you would see people walking dogs and jogging but try the same walk at midnight or later and it's a little bit different.
