This is going to be long, and I'll be as fair as I can.

They very first experience I had with Island Walk was a complete pain in the rear. I signed a lease for a water front apartment on the Salt water side. One month before I was suppose to move in they called me and told me I couldn't move in there but they'd give me another place with a nice parking lot view. I went to a lawyer who said since I had a signed lease with dates that I was suppose to be there on I could take them to court, but who wants to waste the money on that' They did give me a bigger apartment for the same price but I didn't need the space for one, and two, the view is parking lot.

Onto the actual apartment. It's pretty nice and newly renovated. It was done cheaply though, and it shows. Wear and tear isn't "normal". Because of the job they did, everything wears quickly. The grout in the bathroom gets dirty and if you clean it, the grout comes off so either way, you lose. The carpet is the cheapest around, so even with taking care of it, it looks like it is 7 or 8 years old, and not 1. The kitchen is nice, but the ice maker in the fridge is junk.

The staff. They are there, basically, to have bodies in the leasing office to get you to sign on the line. Other than that, they are completely and utterly useless. They are nice, and they will tell you things are going to change, but they are lying. Example:

I've been here a year, and the parking is HORRIBLE. There are parking spots, but you have to walk a couple of buildings. But that isn't what gets me, because I sort of expected that. What will make your blood boil is the few people that feel they are entitled to park in the non parking zones in front of the buildings because they are too lazy to find a spot and walk like the rest of us. So many people complained about this that the staff printed and circulated a flier saying that people would be towed if they did this. Well guess what. It has been months and no one has been towed.

Of course, the staff won't be afraid to talk like they know what is going on, but like I said, they really don't have a clue. I don't believe a word they tell me. The only time they are responsive is when it is in Island Walks best interest. Oh yes, then they get stuff done. If it is in the interests of the tenets...well...be prepared for nothing to get done. Like I said, they are nice, so as long as you can deal with them, and have NO complaints, you'll be fine.

They also like to "switch" things around on you. They had two workout facilities. One they made ultra nice (it took them months, so we couldn't work out for a while), and then they told half the complex we couldn't use it. They took an old building, put some crappy machines in it, called it the gym for our half of the complex and that is it. So if you live on the fresh water side, you might as well get a gym membership, because our is next to worthless.

Kids: The kids are a nightmare, but this goes for just about every place so ehhh.

Grounds: The place actually is very nice looking in my opinion. Its clean, for the most part, and I don't really see a lot of construction. I've never seen anything that would leave me to believe the place isn't safe, and I've never really had noise issues.

Maintenance: Always gotten to me quick, been nice, and did a good job.

Overall: I hate to say this, I'd have to recommend the place. It is better than most others I've looked at. As long as you move in and don't expect the women in the leasing office to do ANYTHING for you everything will be fine. Not that they are not likable, they are just worthless except for showing you around the place.
