some good, some bad

(nothing here has been exaggerated.)

My fiance and I have been living at the legacy for the past two months. oct 2003-jan 2004. at first we were very impressed with the apartments, i.e. the square footage and vintage look. we needed something unique in tampa that was affordable.

as soon as we signed the lease, the staff became totally oblivious to anything that we asked to be fixed or any requests made period. we were told that the terribly stained carpet in the foyer to the building would be replaced. surprise! surprise! nothing has changed. we gave them a long list of things we needed fixed and they fixed about half and never returned. anytime we go to the office, they act as though they are right on top of it, but one never sees any changes.

It took me going to them five times before our names were put into the call box and we could have guests over.

Like EVERYONE else I have talked to that lives in this complex, the ceiling and walls have leaked water, on multiple occasions. When reporting this to the office (if your lucky) they send out the general Mr.Fix-It that did an awful job patching a hole in our closet from a leak. Most of the time he says that he will return the next day to fix something and you never hear from him again.

Basically, there are two problems with this complex: the staff in the office and the leaky pipes. The staff can be rude, it is either that or they give you a lot of face and then never do what they seemed so committed to doing when you were there. You have to be very persistent to get anything done.

The pipes do leak too. it is also true from the other post that the sinks do back up with wierd sludge every night in our apartment. the sinks have a problem draining and the water smells awful and leaves a seriously disgusting film on our dishes when washed in the machine, forcing us to wash all by hand. They make you sign a paper about mold when you move in too. that should have been a big red light.

but, as for the neighborhood, it is great! all the people are as kind as could be! most people say hello and children play in the shady back areas. i feel safe when walking around. it is really a beautiful and peaceful place. great location too! right near downtown, 275, and ybor, but in a very safe place.

there are not many visitor spots. parking is very limited if someone has a party.

Not very noisy. people are very mellow.

oh yeah, if you want to exercise or leave this place on foot, it is a $30 deposit for either one.

they also promised us a washer/dryer rental, but when the guy came to hook it up, the unit did not fit in the space provided. the delivery man said that none of them ever fit in the legacy. he always gets complaints. both of my upstairs neighbors had to take the doors off of their closets to keep the unit. we on the other hand, said get this crap outta here if it s going to be so cumbersome. so we lost our move-in special.

the only thing you need to watch out for here is the lazy, inconsiderate, non-committal staff who is more concerned with shutting you up and getting you out the door than actually fixing your problem. and the leaky old pipes that make themselves known from time to time.

it is a real shame that the staff is such a let down. this could be a fantastic place to live, if only the staff had any standards or drive to service and hospitality, which they do not, by any means. they are too busy reeling more tenants and planning little neighborhood bashes.

do not exclude this place from your search as the apartments are very big and vintage and the neighbors are very nice, but just be wary, and do not let them talk you into the washer/dryer deal, as it does not pan out.
