Caution on deposit!

We got notice in the mail from Lighthouse Bay that we are not getting ANY of our deposit ($300) back! I was not expecting every penny back, b/c there was "wear & tear" that we inadvertently caused. They had to replace mini blinds $35 -they somehow got bent, not a big deal to me, and I understand the charge.
They re-cleaned the fans, oven, stove top, and bathroom to the tune of $75 -not really going to argue about it, even though I busted my hump & I would have eaten a steak dinner off the bathroom floor!
The part that irritates me -thus the reason for my post- is that they are trying to keep the remainder of the deposit ($190) b/c we placed a bookshelf that was falling apart, back near the dumpster.
The maintenance worker TOLD us to leave the bookshelf beside the trash compactor, seeing that it wouldn't fit inside it. Today we drove by the complex, and only recently did they put signs up that say "No dumping violators will be prosecuted". Obviously if it was illegal at the time we moved, the maintenance worker would have reported the dumping and then we would have been "prosecuted".
It's not any wonder that MacDill REFUSES to list them as a partner on their referral list!
