I have lived at Malibu for a year now and just resigned for another year. Its true that Malibu is one of the most expensive apartments in the area, 585 dollars a month. Parking is nice because it you can park in the gated area, for 15 dollars a month, or you can park in the outside lot and its free. Things tend to be broken a lot around here, the gates are constantly hanging off their hinges or don't respond to the clicker so you have to walk around to the other side of the building to get in, but the management is usually good about fixing these by the next day (unless its the weekend). There is a gym, but its not very extensive. There is a universal machine but it has been broken for the last 5 months at least. The management is good about responding to maintenance requests within a few days, but the maintenance department is not well qualified. Our garbage disposal has been broken for several months, and despite requesting a fix atleast 4 times, it remains broken, even though the maintenace staff will claim that they "fixed the problem". I would also say that the maintenace staff is a little creepy. Sometimes they come in your room to do maintenance when you are not there, and while that is convenient, it also weirds me out to think of these guys in my room alone. The refridgerator is rediculously small for four people to share. And be sure to add in electricity costs when you are deciding if you can afford the place. My apartment usually has an overage of atleast 20 dollars a month, a person, and we are repeatedly told by management that we have the lowest overage in the complex. Mostly though the appeal of Malibu is its convenience. You have your own personal bathroom, and it is super close to the school.
