It was fine until we told them we weren't staying...

We live in a One Bed/One Bath directly across the street from the main office. We are leaving today and I can't wait.
We were very excited when we moved in. Nancy is and has always been wonderful to us. For the area, the place looks fantastic (brick, black gates, recently redone roofs) but some of the surrounding complexes look pretty sad so I'm sure that helps. The model of the apartment we got is different from what we actually received. The floorplan was the same (just reversed) but the model's living room space was MUCH bigger than what we got. The model's bedroom was much SMALLER than ours. The slanted wall makes placing furniture a little difficult, but not unmanageable. The balconies are nice, but my only "complaint" about them is that the wooden slates that make up the "floor" are spaced so that I can see the patio below us. The only problem I ever had with the kitchen and bathroom was that the bottom of a few cabinets were warped and sagging and that there is a large wooden cabinet right next to the shower. Maintenance came and fixed the cabinet bottoms, no problem, save for the fact that there are only two guys that do the maintenance work for the whole complex (he told me himself). The drains are slow and back up easily, so we bought lots of Drain-O. One of the tiles on our fireplace fell and thankfully didn't break. Apparently the maintenance guys can't get those tiles anymore (once again, he told me this, I'm not making it up). I did enjoy the fireplce VERY much, especially durning the end of the year. The fan in the bedroom is nice but it does make the window blinds rattle. The doors (at least in our apartment) are not set right and when we mentioned it, we were told they were fine. When my front door is closed, I can see light from outside coming in ALL the way around the door frame. The bedroom door is crooked, so to close it, you have to force it. We were also told the water damage and the cracks in our ceiling were fine. Once, I came home from work and there was water all over the kitchen (a leak somewhere, it was raining A LOT) but it never happened again. The roofs have been replaced for the whole complex. The walls are a little thin (or it's the windows) so when people are talking outside, you can hear it, sometimes like they are inside the building with you. Also, you hear people yelling at each other quite a bit. Once, we almost called the cops. We can always hear it when our next door neighbors open and close their front door, not a big deal, but you might care. Parking sucks. In our lot we are only allowed on car per apartment (understandable) but even around the back of the building, parking is scarce. Also, when it rains, our lot floods and floods badly. It makes about 3-4 spaces unusable and I hope you have a casual dress code at your work because if you are parked close to those 3 or 4 spaces, your feet are getting wet. Otherwise, the apartment itself was actually very nice.
The office was also very nice to us at first. Nancy is a doll. We tried not to bother them since we were told there were only two maintenance guys so we didn't have a lot of contact with the office save for giving them a check the first of the month. We did get a few notes on the door, they're good about that, for some things. Stuff on the balcony, stuff in front of the door, the usual, and the notes were nicely worded, not rude or anything. They give you a reminder about your lease and how they need notice if you're not sticking around. Don't call to let them know you aren't renewing. It cost us an extra two days added to our last rent bill. Once the office was informed we were leaving, it all went downhill. They've been rude and I hope I NEVER meet Mary in person because if she's rude like that face to face I don't know what I'd do. Also, our downstairs neighbors have taken to playing their music late at night and very early in the morning. I can't hear the music, but the bass is very loud and must be in the room right below my bed. It rattles my dishes. So I've left some notes asking them to turn the bass down a bit. Months of this go by and I finally call the office just to ask what their noise policy is. I made it very clear I was not complaining, I just wanted all my facts together before I tried to talk to my neighbors face to face. Unfortunately, the office was one step ahead of me. They put me on hold and while I was still on the line, the and not only notified my neighbors that someone complained about the noise, they told them what apartment did it. Then they got back on the line with me and told me it was taken care of. There was a small confrontation with my neighbors afterwards that could have easily been avoided. This is NOT the neighborhood for confrontations.
It's actually not a bad place for the price, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend unless he REALLY needed a place. If you want to live here I hope you don't require much from the office and I hope all of your appliances and fixtures work for your entire stay.

The office have the nerve to discriminate against prospective renters which was a plus for us and we didn't realize it until after reading all of this. I am really glad they would not rent to my family no one want to pay rent to slum lands. Nice one day and on the rag another. We will keep looking to get out of where we are now. No one wants to leave one problem to go to another similar one. Nothing gets fixed where we are that's why we leaving.
