From a Student Renter

I lived at the Preserve in a two bedroom, two bath apartment with three other girls in an individual lease, student housing situation. All my opinions about my roommates aside, I'd like to give a review about the complex since people seen to have such negative opinions about student renters. I always paid my rent on time, I NEVER was noisy, I was never rude to other renters, and I wasn't a first time renter.
People who live at the Preserve have preconceived notions about students, that is the main problem. There were times I was accosted by people just for being a student. People that didn't even live near me and police officers in the complex were discriminatory against students and that make attitudes flair from BOTH directions. Yes, some students that rented at the Preserve were TERRIBLE tenants. But, when I moved away, they didn't have a student housing situation at my complex and I STILL had problems with noisy students. If you live in a town with so many colleges, you're going to have students at your complex, end of story.
Now, the apartment itself was amazing. I really wasn't expecting much when I moved in since I had a unique renting situation and it was done with the school. I thought I would be walking into a standard apartment, but boy was I wrong. The walls were nice drywall with no problems, the vinyl was great quality and easy to clean, the appliances seemed pretty new and always worked awesome, the carpet was soft and clean and the windows were HUGE to let in lots of light.
But, I have to complain profusely about the air conditioning system. For one, they didn't have an electronic readout which I thought was weird since everything in the apartment was pretty techy. Secondly, the bedroom I was in had horrific circulation and it wasn't but four feet from the a/c unit. I called several times about it and they said that it was because of the angles that the ducts were installed in and they couldn't do anything about it. It also wouldn't stay on and we would constantly have to go through a ritual of turning it off, flipping the break till it held (usually the third or fourth time) and then waiting a couple minutes and turning the a/c on and then flipping it to automatic after it kicked in. I personally called maintenance three or four times in the year I lived there about the a/c and they always showed up within an hour to look at it, but never fixed the problem. They said they were going to order a part and never came back with it to install. Also, a squirrel would constantly enter our patio to eat my house plants by chewing through the window screening and they never fixed that. I called about that at least twice.
The office staff was nice enough. I never had much of a reason to talk to them except to get my packages in the mail which they were very organized about. The mail was in a nice covered area and there was valet trash service, which is awesome when you're on a school-to-work schedule like I am.
In closing, please keep an open mind about students renting at the Preserve. Not all students have the same background or behave the same. Some of us are experienced renters who just need a break while attending school and some of us are more courteous than your other non-student renters.
