The apartment is decent for the price. I love the location more than anything. We're right next to a Hartline stop, a walk-in clinic, a county park and minutes away from veterans, 54, and I-275. You also have options for grocery stores and restaurants. The complex itself has pluses and minuses. I have lived here since 2007 and am thinking of extending my lease through 2010...mostly because it'll be a pain to move. Here are some of the biggest drawbacks that I can think of:
1. Broken Gates- The gates are often broken, but a gated community doesn't make it or break it for me. If someone wants to get into the complex, they can just as well tail a car coming through the gate when it's functional.
2. Thin Ceilings/ Walls- When I'm in my bathroom, I can hear my adjacent neighbor if he's also in the bathroom. But I hear EVERYTHING my upstairs neighbor does. I can tell when he's walking from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom. If it's quiet when I'm in my bedroom, I can hear him take a piss. It pretty much sucks. But because people in the community are pretty nice, I've talked to him about it and now he doesn't walk so hard. He'll even give me a heads up if he's planning on having a couple of friends over.
3. Dogs- The complex is accepting more people with pets, which is fine. But I just wish I didn't have to smell or look at fresh and petrified poop all the time. It's especially annoying to wipe poop off of my shoe when all I did was take the trash to the compactor (twice this has happened). So, now I don't walk in the grass unless the sun is out and even then I carefully watch my step. I'm hoping this will change since the they recently installed poop bag/trash stations around the grassy areas. The other issue is I've been awakened by barking competitions on a few occasions.
4. Sprinklers- The sprinklers seem to come on at really odd times. On top of that, they don't appear to be aimed properly. There are sprinklers in the small patch of land that holds the receiver that opens the gates and every time I go to swipe the card, my hand gets a little wet. On top of that, the sprinklers are often seen giving cars an unannounced wash. I think the broken sprinklers were due to a few kids in the complex having nothing better to do. They moved out a few months back and I haven't seen to many broken sprinklers since. Just wrongly-aimed ones...
The front office staff has always been pretty nice and anytime I had a problem paying rent on time they worked with me, especially when I was unemployed. I've only called on the maintenance staff once and had to complain about the same problem (leaking windows) a few times before anything was done about it. And when they did do something it was when I was out of the apartment, although I told them to only come by when I am home. Plus, they didn't really fix the problem. I could tell they looked at the windows but when it rained hard again, they still leaked. That's when I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
Outside of those things, I haven't had any inconvenient experiences. Heads up though: the rent goes up every year! And your base rent is not the price that you're paying month to month. You also pay for water, sewer, and trash. It's usually an extra $35-40 a month.

Good review. Our rent is nearly 800 dollars for the bigger one-bedroom. However they're still selling it at $645 to date. Not sure why our rent always goes up every year, we don't ever do anything wrong. We're moving because it's too expensive now. Love the location though, far away from the noise, but close enough to everything else.
