So-so apartment living with terrible maintenance staff
From: QacerDate posted: 1/8/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I moved in about September 2005. Aesthetically, the apartment looked just like any other white wall residence. However, upon closer inspection, the paint job was just plain horrible. To top it off, there were broken drawers. The laundry cabinet door was leaning on the wall waiting to be installed. The oven was poorly maintained with its clock fixture falling apart and barely clinging on to its wires. An improvised Styrofoam support system was put behind the oven clock to try to hold it.
This was just the kitchen and living room area. Upstairs was also a bit disappointing. The floor leading up to the stairs had a major crack on it. It almost looked like someone took a hammer and pounded on the ground really hard. The main door next to the stairs did not look too right, either. Upon opening, a major crack on the door frame became exposed. Someone must have tried to kick the door open before. That’s not safe at all.
The sliding glass door in the patio area even had a below-grade locking mechanism. When we first moved, it was not capable of locking at all. Plain and simple, it was broken. They fixed it a few days later and added glued-on door stoppers stuck on the other glass frame. They used three of them. A few days later, they were on the floor. I guess they were using cheap Elmer’s Glue on it.
The weather was still a bit hot when we moved in September. We realized this a few days later when our air-conditioning (AC) system seem to only spit out dry, hot air. We confronted the apartment maintenance about this. Liz, the residential maintenance manager, said she would get it fixed. Well, it took about a week before they realized that they could not fix the AC and decided to call another company to fix it.
About a month into moving, all the other maintenance issues that we had were still left unfixed. The drawers in the kitchen were still broken and the oven clock was still hanging on its wires. They did come and fix the laundry room door, but it did not last long. It is broken once again.
They did try to replace the roof shingles with some new ones. However, they seemed to have thought that our patio area is the dumping grounds for the old ones. I had to clean this myself because the maintenance staff was busy riding their golf carts.
As I type this message, I am hoping that the sun will warm the apartment a bit. The heating system is broken and it only spits out cold air. Their maintenance office is close during the weekends and the remaining maintenance staff is not even capable of using a screw driver. It was just our luck that yesterday night was one of the coldest this year. I do not think I was dreaming when I saw my breath temporarily.
