Nice Location but Problems with Neighbors

South Pointe is improving and appears to be getting a face-lift. The best thing about this apartment complex is the location. Accessible to many highways and thoroughfares. Bayshore Boulevard is a minute away, as well at the Gandy Bridge and Leroy Selmon Expressway. The apartment complex is family-friendly as well as pet-friendly--perhaps too pet-friendly, since dogs seem to have had the run of the place as of late. Dogs wander the pool area and incessantly bark.
Management and maintenance have been very responsive the times I've had to pay a call, and they've been both courteous and professional.
Some negatives: There IS a bug problem which may have been aggravated by the recent landscaping of the recreational areas. As the dirt is dug up, so do the critters! Also, there is no security at night which has allowed people (both residents and non-residents) to misuse the pool area, causing a lot of loud conversations, drunken fighting and SCREAMING, drinking, etc. Even very small children have been out in the pool area way past 10:00 P.M., when the pool area is supposed to be closed for the night. Either security or locking the gates at night would be the way to solve this security problem.
We have also been nickle-and-dimed with "silly" charges like a rental bill fee, a trash fee, utility recovery fees, etc., which should be included in the rent. As high as the rental charges are, and being South Pointe is an older, established apartment complex, water, trash, etc. should be included in the rent.
I don't know whether I'd recommend this place, but then I'm a hard rater. There must be better places to rent for the money being charged.
