Definately not highclass apartments, but a godsend when you're living on a budget in Tampa. The area isn't the best, but the apartments are access controlled with a gate. This was one of the few communities i found in tampa with a gate that was actually closed all the time.
The apartments are small, but were well kept. The only problem we had was with ants. We sprayed constantly and never got rid of them. We couldn't even keep food in the cupboards. The only safe place was on top of the fridge.
Bill and Michelle were wonderful towards my roommate and i. They were even understanding when we became three months behind in rent due to money problems. we did not receive our deposit back, but that was our fault. we left before our lease was up. they didn't charge our last month's water bill either.
i never felt unsafe and got along well with most of the neighbors.
i would definately not call these apartments home, but there are Plenty of worse places in this city. I would recommend southern oaks to other students. it's near malls, good food, and the university.
