Not worth it

These apartments are not bad, they are old, but kept in relatively decent shape inside. The exteriors tend to be poorly kept, with rotting wood, especially on the steps and columns, which are inadequately patched. Maintenance is fairly swift, although one at least is a horrible smartass (2 bad experiences but never met him, just saw his notes). However, the other two maintenance issues I had were fixed swiftly and without comment.
The rental staff is friendly, but make CERTAIN that any changes are noted on your lease and you receive a copy immediately. I had to argue with them twice over minor promises that were not properly noted.
The prices are decent for the area (right across from USF, just off of Fowler Ave), but there is NO security, and I have had my car broken into once. Two others who live in my building have also had this problem, and two broken windows. I witnessed a mugging at gunpoint in broad daylight outside my window and the police did not even care for a description or the tag #. Apparently these sorts of things are commonplace in this area.
Many of the other residents were unsatisfied, primarily with the lack of security, and 5 of the 7 neighbors I have spoken with (and myself), have not renewed leases and moved out.
As I said, the apartments themselves are nice enough inside, the walls and ceilings are very thick and I rarely have noise from neighbors, although often from car alarms and honking horns outside. Maintenance is good, but the security is a SERIOUS concern, as there are no fences or gates and inadequate police presence. I do NOT recommend these apartments.
