Forest Place is a community with serious issues. While the flooding was not an impact caused by Forest Place this is not the first time the area has been underwater. The county's efforts to fix this problem obviously were ineffective. This problem only seems worse with the recent building activity in the immediate area.
The recent flooding (from Tropical Storm Frances) left the community underwater with cars damaged and in many cases cars totaled, no running water and no electricity. The storm didn't knock out the power or water...the staff did.
Helicopters circled the community for days on end after Frances so obviously Forest Place and the immediate surrounding area had very severe damage. Forest Place was built in a low lying area where not only the complex floods but 22nd Street, Fowler Avenue, 131st Avenue and 15th streets do as well. But I stayed at a hotel less than a mile away while the power and water were out at Forest Place and helicopters did NOT circle that hotel. Clearly, from first hand experience and watching the news Forest Place was severely impacted.
FEMA, insurance agents from several companies and the Red Cross Disaster Relief team were in the Forest Place complex. Red Cross passed out several meals to the residents. This was not the case in other complexes in Tampa.
While dead fish decayed on the sidewalks, parking lots and breezeways, maintenance was repairing the fountain in the pond. A few days prior when most buildings were still completely surrounded by water they were busy cleaning the pool. Clearly this is a complex with serious priority issues.
While not having been evicted as the previous poster states and in fact having received an excellent resident reference from Forest Place the issues concerning this complex would unfortunately still be the same.
