I am in the Apt. Mgmt. industy. (not w/Gables fyi) and it is not uncommon to list an unoccupied apt. as occupied if the current resident owes rent and is paying rent on an empty apt. Believe it or not, it is not that uncommon. Sometimes it is cheaper to pay out the rent then to break the lease. However..if the mgmt. knows its empty there is no reason they cannot go in and resolve the problem for you. If the person is paying rent but not living there they can call the resident to let them know what is going on, or give a hour notice to the door advising they will be entering the next day to perform a serice request. Hopes this helps.
