A review form a 3yr Resident

After reading some of the terrible and some of the great reviews, I thought I would add my comments on how I feel about West Park Village.
I've been a resident in a 2/2 townhouse for 3 years now, and I'm planning on moving into a larger unit for the next couple of years. My overall experience has been that West Park Village is a nice place to live. I have very rarely seen any significant problems with parking, expect for the area right next to the retail shops. You may not find a place on the street right next to your townhouse/apartment but it will be relatively close. They area is quiet most of the time, and it feels very safe. I like most of the tenants I've met in the community. They also are one of the few communities that allows larger breed dogs.
The Townhouses have decent appliances and quality of construction. I would give the overall quality a 3.5/5. Expect a few problems with appliances or workmanship. The townhouses are decently priced and relatively large. I love my home's and other homes' floor plan, typically open with high ceilings. The grounds are regularly maintained, and for the large number of dogs there, very little animal waste not picked up. The location of the homes is also a big plus.
A couple of large negatives. I've seen a number of dogs walked without leashes, despite the notices and laws. One of my dog's is very protective and I worry often about a dog running up on her and getting into a fight. It's happened actually once since I've been living there. It's not the apartment's fault, it's the irresponsible tenants, and I'm sure it happens everywhere.
The second big one is the property management staff. Every time I think I'm getting to like them they disappoint. They constantly don't fulfill requests for maintenance or take care of things they have been asked for. I've had the same problem with their office staff for the past 3 years. You are better off stopping and talking with one of the maintenance people, which by the way, are extremely nice and fast at taking care of problems. If you tell someone something important to write down or to do for you, make sure you follow up again if it's important. Their note taking system, which I've seen in action many times, is scribbling on post it notes or scrap paper. A few times I've had to ask 3 times until I got what I wanted even written down. Honestly, I think the staff is in over their heads. In my opinion, someone needs to take charge who has a good established system in place, and they need to enforce it within their office. That would solve 50% of everyone's complaints.
On a side note: don't expect to bend any rules or language in your contract with them. They are not flexible on rent turn in dates, with notice time frames, and with negotiating anything that has already been signed. If they tell you do something by the 1st, if it isn't they will take the full recourse or apply the full penalty. It's not necessarily always a negative, it just means that if you aren't a very responsible person, or you have an emergency/problem, don't expect to be helped out beyond the contract provisions.
