Sneaky Managers that do not tell all, Paper Thin Walls, Rotten Maintenance....

My husband and I moved in here a year ago, and we thought that we were getting a great deal. They were having a "special" a 2 bedroom apartment for the price of a 1 bedroom! Of course, after moving in, we found out that that was how much they charged for the 2 bedrooms anyway. Well, we thought it was still a decent deal. There is the fact that the walls are SO THIN that EVERYONE can hear EVERYTHING that goes on next to you. Think pots and pans banging in the middle of the night! My husband and I have always been quiet tenants. The worst we might do is play the TV a little loud. But guess what the neighbor below came up to complain to ME about' The squeak in my floor and the fact that she could hear all my water running, shower, toilet, dishwasher...um...not MY problem!
My BIGGEST problem with this apartment complex however, is the sneaky way that they worked in their little "surety Bond" addenum. When we were signing up for the apartment, we were told of a new and improved 'security bond' for move in. "If you pay us $88 now, that saves you all that security deposit move in money!" They told us. "We just claim the money used for any damage to the apartment from the Bond company." We thought that sounded too good to be true, but upon detailed and probing questioning, we were assured that this was the way to go, and it meant we'd ONLY have to pay the $88! OK, well, if you say so, that is good enough for me.
When we move out we get a bill from them for $125. Not only are they charging us for a broken oven door that they fixed BEFORE move out, why are they charging us' Turns out, the surety bond allows THEM to claim their money that they decide that we owe them FASTER! Then the bond company turns around and tells us we owe them that money back! So not only are we OUT the $88 with NOTHING to show for it, we still owe damages! Talk about sneaky, dishonest and conniving! I cannot even begin to tell you how pissed I am at management for their sneaky way of going about things. Oh sure there was ONE LINE in the surety bond paperwork that said "you will be responsible for any resulting charges to the surety bond company." But the manager assured us that meant only if the money went beyond the $500 mark.
My husband and I are good tenants, and apparently too trusting. If you ever hear the words surety bond, run. It is not worth it, and in the end you pay that plus all the money that they decide you owe them. This place was crap.

Wow! sounds so familiar..i just recently moved out and had the same problem.. i did the whole $88.00 thing, and then when i moved in my carpet was so dirty it was not even funny.. so i complained and steam cleaned it..ha, did not work just got worse and had a nasty odor..so come to find out that the carpet hadnt been changed since the last 4 tenants..uh nasty! so then i asked that i not be held responsible and to have it in writing..so cant beat that its in writing that i wouldnt be responsible for the carpet because it was filth that was not mine! then i let the year go i move out and wait for my finalized statement after the walk through etc..now i owe $150.00 because the padding underneath the carpet had pet stains on it..mind you i NEVER had a pet..so not only was the carpet nasty i was breathing pet pee! i am pissed at this point and talk with the manager and she states i am not being charged for the carpet that i am being charged for the padding underneath wtf..how it that..doesnt make sense..long story short they suck and are sneaky and want me to pay for the padding that someone elses pet went to the bathroom on and left for me..the assurity bond thing is a waste of time because it does nothing..
