Flooding

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
I am moving out of this community in 5 days.
My apartment on the 2nd floor (1br, 1bth) got flooded about one month ago.
The water pipe to the washing machine, which is owned by the apartment complex, burst.
The water was running all day long while I was out working and many of my stuff got ruined.
The reason the management gave me was "these building are 24 years old and you cannot help occasional flooding."
I immediately requested that the carpet should be replaced because the almost entire carpet was soaking wet.
But the management told me they would dry the carpet.
I said even if the carpet would dry, mold and smell would remain.
They said once the carpet would dry, the mold and the smell would go away.
I started to stay at a nearby hotel because the huge blowers and dehumidifiers were going on in my unit.
(The management told me they would reimburse me for the hotel charge but I have not received their check yet after one month.)
After 3 days, the carpet was still wet.
The management finally started to say they would change the carpet.
They told me I should stay at their model room instead of a hotel.
I said to them how I can stay at a room where people were in and out all day long.
Next day around 4 pm, the management called me at my office, saying the carpet replacer could not make it that day because they were stuck in a thunderstorm.
I told the management they should call other vendors to replace my carpet.
The management told me the AIMCO, the management company, could only call in their own certified vendors.
The management then told me the carpet was dry enough and I could sleep in my unit.
I told them the smell and mold was too much.
The management said the carpet drier people assured that the carpet was dry and I have either sleep in my apartment or the model room.
They said if I stayed at a hotel, I would not get reimbursed.
I hated to stay at their model room.
So I slept in my unit on my mattress.
And my mattress got ruined.
The surface of the carpet was dry.
But the paddings under the carpet was still wet.
The water came out onto the surface while I was sleeping and soaked the bottom part of my mattress with a nasty smell.
The management said they would reimburse me for the mattress but I have not received their check yet on this one, either.
I also got my car stolen and totaled while I was staying in this community.
There is no gate.
The management tries to lure police officers in living here by lowering the rent for officers for the first 6 months but many officers leave after 6 months.
If you are ready to tough it out with the management, this is an ideal place.
