I moved out of my apartment at the end of April, 2005 and in May I got my "move out expense" list. In addition to resonable cleaning charges this list included charges for water and sewer for a period of no more than 2 weeks that was 3 times what I normally paid for a month. When I called the manager they told me that indeed the number was too high. We agreed apon a new amount and I promptly mailed them a check. A month later I got a voice message on my phone asking when I was going to pay my bill, not the new amount but the original incorrect and inflated amount. I wrote them a letter detail how I had infact paided this bill, for the correct lower amount. I never heard back from them.
Then in early August I got a letter from a collection agency for the amount I paid, the correct amount. Some how the managers got my bill amount right, but neglected to check their records as I suggested to determine that I had paid my bill. I called my bank and now in addition to a simple statement I have a copy of the canceled check that was "deposit only" into the village account. If only the complex had some staff that could complete some very basic accounting plactices. Really, is this incompetance, or crimanal behavior designed to extort'
