Don't go there, man!!

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
Where do I begin' The reason my brother and I chose Bishop Park was for a few good reasons. The first being they were gated "luxury apartments", they appeared to be in great condition, and the apartment they put us in was right up against a "bird sanctuary". Let me begin with the bird sanctaury...we had the choice between two apartments, one by the pool and one by this bird habitat. We chose the one by the habitat because God knows living by the pool would probably get annoying, what with all of the parties and noise. I would give anything to take that back. Let's just say that I have seen maybe one red robin in the two years I have lived here. The sanctuary should have been called purgatory...Spiders and snakes and bugs I have never seen ever in my life. Living with spiders is something most of us have to do, but these arachnids are not normal. They are as big as my hand and have caused me a lot of paranoia. May sound silly to you, but I was not afraid of spiders until now. And the snakes, I must have come into contact with 10 snakes in the past two years. On one occasion, I almost stepped on a big black snake...harmless maybe, but I approached the maintanence man about it and he just laughed at me. Now these things may be something that cannot be controlled by the office, but they never sprayed for bugs inside, only outside. When you spray outside for bugs and not inside, the bugs flock inside...not fun. Now for the condition of the apartments. At first look, they appeared to be nice and in working order, not as clean as one would expect from moving into a new apartment. I understand that things break down and need repair, but when this happens it should be taken care of immediatly. Our garbage disposal broke and it took the maintenance people a few weeks to respond to our numerous calls. There is a maintenance servise promise that states that they have 48 hours to respond and if they do not then we recieve free rent credit until the problem is fixed. We saw nothing like that. When they finally did came to fixit, they didn't fix the problem and we had to call back and wait again for it to be resolved. On another occasion, I woke up to a funny smell. It was coming from the water heater and it smelled like something was burning. I called the office and got no response so I walked down there to speak with them. The girl working was not caring at all. She finally brokedown (thank you very much for doing your job) and called the maintenance men. It took them two hours to show up. In a recent incident, our water heater(again) decided it was going to leak water all over the carpet in front of the closet on into my bedroom. I called, they came to fix the problem, but did nothing about the carpet. By this time, the carpet had soaked up the water and it was letting off a moldy kind of smell. Not pleasent. I called the office and it was the same girl who answered the phone. Again, in her non-caring attitude, she says that the maintenance man did not feel the wettness. I had to assure her that the carpet was in fact, wet. It was almost like she wasn't beliving me. Well, the carpet is still wet and smells. No amount of Febreeze has helped. If I live in a place deemed Luxury Apartments, I would expect to be treated as such. Now for the "gated" community. The gate never works. We are paying an ungodly amount of money for this apartment. I would think they could use some of that money to get a better security system. They gate has probably worked a total of 6 months, off and on, during the two years I have lived there. And when it does work, I have seen people easily just tap the gate with the bumper of thier car and it opens with no problem. What's the point of having a gated community if it doesn't even provide security. With having said that, my brother awoke one early morning to go to work and found his car on blocks. Someone had taken all of his tires and the complex did nothing about it. We do have sheriff's that live on property, but it is pointless. There has been one occasion where I have seen them do anything about anything. It was a friday night at approximatly 9:30. I had four of my friends over and we were on my patio talking. No music, no nothing. Just some friends sitting around chating. All of a sudden, a person comes around the corner to the patio demanding that we keep the noise down. It was a sheriff that lived on property. That is fine. If we were being too loud I understand, but it was a friday night at 9:30 and we were just talking. I have had many nights where people around our apartment have had big parties until all hours of the morning and nothing has been done about it. I can remember one instance on the Fourth of July, where people were setting off firecrackers ALL NIGHT LONG right outside my bedroom window. We were told when we moved in that cops there are always on call 24/7. When you call the office after hours, all it says is if this is an emergency, please hang up and dial 911. Nothing about an on call cop. I have touched on customer care throughout this review. All in all, the customer care of Bishop Park is non caring. When we first moved in, they were very nice and courtious. Now that we are about to move out in less then a month they could care less about our needs. Case in point....we moved into Bishop Park at the end of September of 2001. We resigned a one year lease which would make us eligable to leave one year, 12 months after the lease was signed. We signed it again at the beginning of October in 2002. You would think that would make us able to leave at the end of October. NOPE!!! When I called the office in August they told me that we have to stay and pay up until the end of November. I could not understand this. All I wanted was for the man on the other end of the phone to explain it to me. He wouldn't or he couldn't, not sure which. I was calm and collected for the first few minutes of the phone call, but he would not answer any of my questions about the lease and refused to give me the name of his superior. I became angry, not only because I wanted to be out of that place sooner then later, but because he couldn't explain to me how a one year lease turned into a 13 month lease. The next day my brother went down to the office and the same non caring girl(from before) was there. She proceeded to tell my brother how rude I was. My brother told her that my questions weren't being answered and by someone who should have all of the answers to my questions. She again did not care and went about her business. I have not yet moved out of this place. My brother and I will be leaving in a few weeks. I'm sure I will need to update this review as soon as that has happened. We have never been late with rent and have always been the quiet ones on the block. We live in a "gated luxury apartment" and have had nothing but bad customer service and bad experiences. This place is definitly going under as far as the tenants who live there and the quality of professionalism that should be maintained by the workers who work there. Do not live here....you will regret it.
